The Route
Miami to Nassau by Private Charter Flight
Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, sits on the island of New Providence about 160 nautical miles east-southeast of Miami. It combines an old harbour front downtown with the resorts of Paradise Island and the long beach at Cable Beach, and it works as a day trip or as the start of a longer stay. Flights from Miami to Nassau leave from a Miami airport or base, with the whole aircraft reserved for your group, and the time in the air is somewhere between 35 minutes and an hour, depending on the aircraft.
Velvet Air books the flight and a licensed carrier flies it. You give us the day and the size of your group, we come back with the aircraft that fit, and everything arrives as one total. We file the names, the passport numbers and both borders from our side, so you bring passports and a bag.
Four kinds of aircraft are offered for this route: a seaplane, a helicopter, small planes and jets. The choice right below shows the difference at a glance, and if you are unsure, ask us. Every route we fly from Miami is on our home page.

How a Flight from Miami to Nassau Works
You can fly from Miami to Nassau by seaplane, helicopter, small plane or jet, and flying from Miami to Nassau works the same way on every aircraft. Here is what every flight includes, from the first message to the moment you reach Nassau.
Plan Your Nassau FlightDistance and Time
The Capital of the Bahamas, 160 Nautical Miles Out
Nassau lies about 160 nautical miles east-southeast of Miami, roughly three times the distance to Bimini. In the air it takes about 35 to 45 minutes by jet, 45 minutes to an hour by small plane, about an hour by seaplane and about an hour by helicopter, and the options we send list the time for each aircraft. A private flight means one aircraft, one departure point and no connection through a hub, so flying from Miami to Nassau is a single leg from your Miami departure point.
How Long the Day Runs
A Day in Nassau, a Weekend or Longer
A morning out and an evening back works, and so does a long weekend. The aircraft waits for you on a charter, which makes the return hour your decision and not a timetable’s. When you enquire, tell us whether you fly home the same day or stay on, and we plan the return around it. Only weather and delays can shift the plan.
The Whole Aircraft
Your Group, Your Aircraft, Your Departure Time
The price covers the whole aircraft, and your group is the only one on board: no other passengers, no shared seats. The departure hour is yours within daylight and within what the crew may fly. Aircraft, crew and flight are quoted as a single total, and the quote lists what is included before you pay a deposit.
Both Borders
Customs on Arrival, Filings Before You Leave
Every passenger needs a valid passport, children included. Lynden Pindling International is an airport of entry with customs and immigration on site, so the group clears the border where it lands. We file the names and passport numbers from our side before you leave Florida and handle both borders, so nothing about the crossing falls to you.
Beaches and Water
Cable Beach, Cabbage Beach and the Water Around New Providence
Cable Beach runs for about two and a half miles along the north shore, Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island for more than two miles, and boats leave from Paradise Island for Blue Lagoon Island and Rose Island. A beach day can be built around any of these, and the order is yours. Swimwear and a towel are worth packing, and the baggage allowance depends on the aircraft, so tell us what is coming when you enquire.
Town and Resorts
Bay Street, Paradise Island and an Evening Out
Downtown Nassau has Bay Street, Parliament Square with its pink government buildings and the Straw Market close together, and Paradise Island is joined to New Providence by bridge, with the Atlantis marina village open to the public. A car can be waiting where you land, and you tell us when you enquire whether you want one.
Departure Points
Miami Departure Points for the Nassau Flight
Flights to Nassau start at airports and bases around Miami. The departure point nearest to your hotel is the one we choose, and it is already named in the quote.
Miami Seaplane Base
Watson Island, Miami
The public seaplane base on Watson Island, between downtown Miami and Miami Beach, about two miles east of the city centre. Seaplane flights leave from here, and downtown and the Beach are a short drive away.
Watson Island, Miami
The heliport on Watson Island in central Miami is where the helicopter departs. Next to the seaplane base, it keeps downtown and Miami Beach close and the ground time before the flight short.
Miami-Opa locka Executive Airport, OPF
A general aviation airport in the north of the city. Its runway is about 8,000 feet long, US Customs is on the field, and three full-service FBOs operate there: Atlantic Aviation, Fontainebleau Aviation and Signature Flight Support. Private jets and small planes of any size can leave from here, and guests staying in the north are closest.
Miami Executive Airport, TMB, Kendall
Miami Executive is the general aviation airport in Kendall, southwest of central Miami. If you are staying in the south or southwest, you can leave from here and skip the drive across town to an airfield in the north.
Miami International Airport, MIA
Miami’s main airport. Guests who arrive by airline and want to continue to Nassau the same day start here, and we plan the departure time around the hour you land.
How to Book
How to Plan a Flight from Miami to Nassau
Planning a flight takes four steps, and only the first one needs anything from you.
Plan Your Nassau Flight- 01
Contact Us
Write to us on WhatsApp or by email. Send your dates, how many guests, where you are coming from and which aircraft you have in mind, or tell us you are not sure yet. Tell us the hour you would like to leave and whether you come back the same day. That is all we need to start.
- 02
Get the Options Back
We check what is free on your date and send the aircraft that fit your party, side by side: seats, bags, time in the air and the price of each. That is usually where the choice makes itself: a large group with luggage points one way, a quick trip for two the other.
- 03
Confirm and Pay
You pick the aircraft, and we fix the departure point and the landing site. Then everything around the flight: catering on board, ground transport in Nassau, flowers if the day is a special one. You approve it, you pay, and the boarding time comes back to you.
- 04
Be There 30 Minutes Before
There is no terminal queue on a charter. Arrive half an hour before the time we sent, walk to the aircraft with your bags and take off.
On the Island
What to See After the Flight to Nassau
Below are six places to see after you land in Nassau, from the old town on Bay Street to two islands you reach by boat.
Plan Your Nassau FlightDowntown Nassau and Bay Street
The Old TownBay Street is the main street of downtown Nassau, with Parliament Square and its pink government buildings across from Rawson Square, the Straw Market and the Pompey Museum on the same stretch. The sights are close together: from the cruise port the Straw Market is a few steps away and Parliament Square about two minutes on foot.
Paradise Island is joined to New Providence by bridge, and the Atlantis resort stands at its western end. The Marina Village beside the Atlantis marina, with its shops and restaurants, and the casino are open to the public without a day pass. Cabbage Beach runs for more than two miles along the north coast of the island.
Cable Beach is a stretch of white sand of about two and a half miles on the north shore of New Providence, around three miles west of downtown and roughly ten minutes by car. The Baha Mar resort complex, which opened in April 2017, stands behind it with its pools, casino and golf course.
Blue Lagoon Island, officially Salt Cay, lies off the north coast of Paradise Island. The ferry leaves from the marina terminal on Paradise Island and takes roughly twenty to twenty-five minutes. The island is known for its beach and its dolphin programme, and the last ferry back usually leaves around four in the afternoon.
Rose Island is a small, uninhabited island just east of Paradise Island, a boat ride of about twenty-five minutes from Nassau. Day trips from Nassau combine a reef snorkel with a stop at a beach, and the exact stops depend on the weather that day. Boats usually leave from the Paradise Island ferry terminal or the cruise port area.
Lynden Pindling International Airport on New Providence is the airport of entry for flights to Nassau. Its longest runway is about 11,000 feet, and customs and immigration are on site, so the group clears the border at the airport. Private aircraft are handled at the private aviation terminals, where a car can be waiting.

In Detail
Miami to Nassau by Private Flight: Beaches, Resorts and the Old Town
Velvet Air arranges private flights from Miami to Nassau through licensed carriers. A single person handles your flight from the first message to the landing, and the aircraft is yours alone. Our other routes from Miami are on the home page.
Miami to Nassau Charter Flights: The Bahamian Capital Without the Airline Queue
About 160 nautical miles to New Providence
A charter to Nassau gives your group one aircraft, a Miami departure point agreed in advance and clearance by customs and immigration on arrival. The Bahamian capital is about 160 nautical miles east-southeast of Miami. Velvet Air arranges the aircraft with licensed operators, lists each one with its specifications on our fleet page, and the quote names the aircraft, the departure point and one total. Lynden Pindling International has a runway of about 11,000 feet, so each of the four aircraft types can land there. Customs and immigration are on site, and a private flight is handled at a private terminal instead of the main concourse. Paradise Island, with Atlantis and Cabbage Beach, is linked to Nassau by bridge.
Nassau Day Trip from Miami: Cable Beach, Bay Street and Paradise Island
A day on New Providence
On a day trip you leave Miami in the morning and fly home in the evening, and you decide the hours in between. Nassau has enough within reach for one day: a walk along Bay Street, lunch at the Atlantis marina village, an afternoon on Cabbage Beach or Cable Beach, or a boat to Blue Lagoon Island. Catering and a private chef can be arranged before departure through our add-ons, and a car can be waiting where you land. The flight takes about an hour or less depending on the aircraft, so a morning departure from Miami puts you on the ground well before lunch. Tell us if you need to be back at a fixed hour for a dinner or a connection, and we plan the return around it. Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island runs for more than two miles along the north shore.
Private Flights to Nassau from Miami: The Border Is Our Job, the Passport Is Yours
Entry into the Bahamas arranged from your departure point
Entering the Bahamas on a private flight means arriving at an airport of entry, and Lynden Pindling International in Nassau is one, with customs and immigration on site. Every passenger needs a valid passport, children included. We file the names and passport numbers from our side before you leave Florida and handle both borders. The same goes for the way home: you reach the aircraft with your passports and have nothing else to manage. For the flight home, the passenger list goes to US Customs and Border Protection through eAPIS before departure, and that is filed from our side as well. Because customs and immigration are on site in Nassau, you clear entry on arrival.
Charter Flights Miami to Nassau: The Gateway to the Rest of the Bahamas
A base for a longer trip
For many guests Nassau is the first stop and not the last. From New Providence the trip can go on to the Exumas, Eleuthera, the Abacos and further, and we plan each leg once you give us the route. Our other destinations from Miami, from Key West and the Dry Tortugas to Bimini and Grand Bahama, are on the home page, and each begins with the same message to us. Entry is cleared once in Nassau, so the next leg to another island continues as a flight within the Bahamas. Lynden Pindling also has a second runway of about 8,300 feet next to the main one. Cable Beach and Paradise Island lie on the north side of New Providence. The return to Miami can leave from Nassau or from any island you reach on the way, and the whole route is quoted together.
Questions
Miami to Nassau Flights FAQ
How far is Nassau from Miami by private flight?
About 160 nautical miles, east-southeast across the water. In the air that is about 35 to 45 minutes by jet, 45 minutes to an hour by small plane, about an hour by seaplane and about an hour by helicopter.
Can we do Nassau as a day trip from Miami?
Yes. On a charter the aircraft waits for you, so the return hour is yours: out in the morning, back in the evening, with both borders handled from our side. Tell us if you would rather stay a night.
Do I need a passport to fly from Miami to Nassau?
Yes. Every passenger needs a valid passport, children included, and a driving licence will not do. Names and passport numbers are filed from our side before you leave Florida.
Which aircraft can I charter from Miami to Nassau?
Air charter in Miami covers a seaplane, helicopter, small plane or private jet. A seaplane lands on water, a helicopter needs a cleared area, a small plane uses island airfields and a jet carries the most. Every aircraft we charter is on our fleet page, with its specifications.
Where in Miami do the flights to Nassau depart from?
From the airport or base closest to where you are staying: the Miami Seaplane Base, Watson Island Heliport, Miami-Opa locka Executive, Miami Executive or Miami International.
Where do you land in Nassau?
Lynden Pindling International Airport on New Providence, an airport of entry with customs and immigration on site. Its longest runway is about 11,000 feet, and the seaplane, an amphibian, lands on the runway there as well, with the other aircraft.
How much does a flight from Miami to Nassau cost?
Private charter flights in Miami are priced for the whole aircraft, not per seat. The total depends on the aircraft, the route and the day, and what it covers is spelled out with the itinerary before any deposit.
Can we choose our own departure time?
Yes, within daylight and within what the crew is allowed to fly. The hour is set when you confirm and can still be moved if your day changes.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day?
If conditions are below what is safe, the crew moves or cancels the flight, and you hear early enough to change the departure. A jet can climb above much of what grounds smaller aircraft.
Will anyone else be on the aircraft?
No. A charter is private: the aircraft and the captain are yours alone, and it carries the people you name and nobody else. There is no seat assignment and no other party sharing the cabin.
What is the difference between Velvet Air and the operator that flies me?
Velvet Air does not own or fly aircraft; the flight is operated by a licensed carrier. We compare carriers for your route and put forward the best fit, and one person stays with your request until you land.
