The Route
Miami to Bahamas by Private Charter Flight
The Bahamas begin about 55 nautical miles east of Miami, where Bimini lies across the Gulf Stream, and reach out to the Exumas, about 275 nautical miles away. Flights from Miami to the Bahamas leave from a Miami airport or base, with the whole aircraft reserved for your group, and the time in the air runs from about 45 minutes to Bimini to an hour and a quarter by jet to the Exumas.
Velvet Air books every Miami to Bahamas flight and a licensed carrier flies it. You give us the day, the island and the size of your group, we come back with the aircraft that fit, and everything arrives as one total. We file the names, the passport numbers and both borders from our side, so you bring passports and a bag.
Four islands have their own page: Bimini, Nassau, the Exumas and Eleuthera. Four kinds of aircraft fly there, a seaplane, a helicopter, small planes and jets, and every route we fly from Miami is on our home page.

How a Flight from Miami to Bahamas Works
You can fly from Miami to the Bahamas by seaplane, helicopter, small plane or jet, and flying to the Bahamas works the same way on every aircraft and every island. Here is what every flight includes, from the first message to the moment you land.
Plan Your Bahamas FlightDistance and Time
Four Islands, 55 to 275 Nautical Miles Out
Bimini is about 55 nautical miles from Miami, Nassau about 160, Eleuthera about 196 and the Exumas about 275. In the air that is about 45 minutes to Bimini and, by jet, 35 minutes to an hour and a quarter to the others, and the options we send list the time for each aircraft. A private flight means one aircraft, one departure point and no connection through a hub, so every flight to the Bahamas is a single leg.
How Long the Day Runs
A Day Trip, a Weekend or Longer
On a charter the aircraft waits for you, so the return hour is yours: out in the morning and back in the evening, or a night or a long weekend on the island. A flight to a close island such as Bimini or Nassau suits a day. When you enquire, tell us whether you fly home the same day or stay on, and we plan the return around it. Only weather and delays can shift the plan.
The Whole Aircraft
Your Group, Your Aircraft, Your Departure Time
The price covers the whole aircraft, and your group is the only one on board: no other passengers, no shared seats. The departure hour is yours within daylight and within what the crew may fly. Aircraft, crew and the Miami to Bahamas flight are quoted as a single total, and the quote lists what is included before you pay a deposit.
Both Borders
Passports Checked on Arrival, Filings Before You Leave
Every passenger needs a valid passport, children included. The airports we fly to on Bimini, Nassau, the Exumas and Eleuthera accept international flights, so the group clears the border where it lands. We file the names and passport numbers from our side before you leave Florida and handle both borders, so nothing about the crossing falls to you.
Which Island
Sharks and Wrecks, Old Town, Swimming Pigs or Pink Sand
Bimini has nurse sharks, stingrays and the SS Sapona wreck, Nassau the old town on Bay Street, Paradise Island and Cable Beach, the Exumas the swimming pigs at Pig Beach on Big Major Cay, and Eleuthera Harbour Island with its Pink Sands Beach. Each island has its own page with the time in the air, the landing airport and what to see.
More Than One Island
Fly On to the Next Island
Many guests combine two islands, for example Nassau first and the Exumas or Eleuthera next. We plan each leg once you give us the route, and the return to Miami can leave from any island you reach on the way. The whole route is quoted together, so you see one total for all of it.

Plan Your Bahamas Flight- 01
Contact Us
Write to us on WhatsApp or by email. Send your dates, how many guests, where you are coming from and which island and which aircraft you have in mind, or tell us you are not sure yet. Tell us the hour you would like to leave and whether you come back the same day. That is all we need to start.
- 02
Get the Options Back
We check what is free on your date and send the aircraft that fit your party, side by side: seats, bags, time in the air and the price of each. That is usually where the choice makes itself: a large group with luggage points one way, a quick trip for two the other.
- 03
Confirm and Pay
You pick the aircraft, and we fix the departure point and the landing site. Then everything around the Miami to Bahamas flight: catering on board, ground transport on the island, flowers if the day is a special one. You approve it, you pay, and the boarding time comes back to you.
- 04
Be There 30 Minutes Before
There is no terminal queue on a charter. Arrive half an hour before the time we sent, walk to the aircraft with your bags and take off for the Bahamas.

For the flight home, the passenger list goes to US Customs and Border Protection through eAPIS before departure, and that is filed from our side as well.

Our other destinations from Miami, from Key West and the Dry Tortugas to Grand Bahama, are on the home page, and each begins with the same message to us. Questions
Miami to Bahamas Flights FAQ

It depends on the island: about 45 minutes to Bimini and, by jet, 35 to 45 minutes to Nassau, about 50 minutes to an hour to Eleuthera and an hour to an hour and a quarter to the Exumas. The options we send list the time for each aircraft.
How far is the Bahamas from Miami?
Bimini, the closest island, is about 55 nautical miles away. Nassau is about 160, Eleuthera about 196 and the Exumas about 275, and each is a single leg from your Miami departure point, with no connection through a hub.
Can you fly to the Bahamas from Florida?
Yes. A private flight leaves from the Miami airport or base nearest to your hotel and lands on the island you choose, at an airport that accepts international flights. We file the passenger details from our side.
How do I get to the Bahamas from Miami?
Send us your date, the island, the size of your group and your luggage. We come back with the aircraft that fit, side by side, and one total, and you meet the aircraft half an hour before the time we send.
Can we do the Bahamas as a day trip from Miami?
Yes. On a charter the aircraft waits for you, so the return hour is yours: out in the morning, back in the evening, with both borders handled from our side. Tell us if you would rather stay a night.
Do you need a passport to fly from Miami to the Bahamas?
Yes. Every passenger needs a valid passport with at least six months of validity, children included, and a driving licence will not do. Names and passport numbers are filed from our side before you leave Florida.
Which islands can I fly to from Miami?
Bimini, Nassau, the Exumas and Eleuthera. Each has its own page with the time in the air, the landing airport and what to see, and the options for any of them come back from one request.
Which aircraft can I charter from Miami to the Bahamas?
Air charter in Miami covers a seaplane, helicopter, small plane or private jet. A seaplane lands on water, a helicopter needs a cleared area, a small plane uses island airfields and a jet carries the most. Every aircraft we charter is on our fleet page, with its specifications.
How much does a flight from Miami to the Bahamas cost?
Private charter flights in Miami are priced for the whole aircraft, not per seat. The total depends on the aircraft, the route and the day, and what it covers is spelled out with the itinerary before any deposit.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day?
If conditions are below what is safe, the crew moves or cancels the flight, and you hear early enough to change the departure. A jet can climb above much of what grounds smaller aircraft.
What is the difference between Velvet Air and the operator that flies me?
Velvet Air does not own or fly aircraft; the flight is operated by a licensed carrier. We compare carriers for your route and put forward the best fit, and one person stays with your request until you land.
